Social Value in 2025

Recent Posts

2025 was a standout year in our social value programme and reflects how we are putting our purpose into action.

Putting Purpose Into Action

At Coastal Recycling, we understand that business is about far more than making money. As an employee‑owned business, our people have a direct stake in the decisions we make and the impact we create. That’s why we’re committed to delivering the maximum social value, taking action that genuinely improves people’s lives. We want to make positive and lasting change, both for our environment and for the people around us – our staff, customers and the communities we serve

Our Social Value Approach

At Coastal, our social value work is guided by a clear and purposeful framework built around the themes that matter most to our communities: Fighting Climate Change, Tackling Economic Inequality, Equal Opportunity and Wellbeing. We prioritise initiatives that align with these themes and where our people and resources can make the greatest difference. By partnering with local charities, schools and community groups, we ensure our efforts are purposeful, consistent, and create genuine long‑term value rather than one‑off gestures

Our Social Value Pillars

Here are our key social value figures from the year:

  • 1 Sustainability Superstar Award
  • 19 community initiatives delivered.
  • 37 tonnes of compost and wood donated to local social enterprises.
  • 75 hours of recycling education delivered to customers at our sites.
  • 100% of Coastal Recycling employees living in Devon.
  • 300 pupils engaged in recycling education talks at Devon primary schools.
  • 483 hours of time spent volunteering by Coastal employees.

Plans for the Future

As we look ahead to 2026 and beyond, we remain committed to delivering even more social impact with purpose.

We’ll be implementing a comprehensive Sustainability Action Plan to help us work towards carbon reduction, with a particular focus on reducing Scope 3 emissions.

We pledge to invest in a pathway to employment through apprenticeship schemes and work experience. This gives young people hands-on experience, professional mentoring, and the skills to build a career in the waste industry.

Our commitment to social value isn’t just talk. From apprenticeships and training to wellbeing initiatives, charitable partnerships, and local engagement, we put our values into action every day.
