Supervisor - Composting

£15.75 per hour

Coastal Organics has a contract with Devon County Council to compost most of Devon’s garden waste at several sites around the county. This post is based at their site in Exeter, but the post may also require working across various sites.

Our operation consists of receiving garden waste, shredding, screening and turning the material to produce a finished PAS100 compost product.

With your experience of plant operation and routine maintenance, as well as supervising teams, your role will be to manage the day to day operations within the composting operation. This role will include directing staff and contractors to carry out operations as required for shredding, screening, turning and loading compost.

The Basic Terms of Employment:

  • - Hours 42.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
  • - Full time, permanent role
  • - Main location: Exeter Devon, EX5 1DR

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • - Ensuring the site is clean and tidy, operations are carried out with due regard to the health and safety of all employees and contractors who may be affected by the operation, and avoidance of damage to plant, equipment and property.
  • - Operate plant and machinery and carry out daily inspection checks as required, complete defect and damage reports and other associated paperwork and follow the escalation process to the appropriate repair facility.
  • - Carry out routine servicing and minor repairs, assist fitters with other repairs. Plan and organise maintenance across various plant and sites as required to maintain all in good order.

  • - Provide a high level of customer service at all times to external and internal customers.
  • - Ensure uniform/PPE is worn at all times whilst on duty and is kept in a clean, tidy and serviceable manner in accordance with Company health and safety requirements.
  • - Safely and efficiently direct and control waste delivery vehicles in the green waste site area.
  • - Carry out site inspections, monitoring and checks as directed. Record findings appropriately. Maintain site records in accordance with company requirements
  • - Ensure compliance with the site Permit, planning and Health & Safety law.
  • - Liaise with regulatory inspectors from time to time as required.
  • - Be aware of and follow Coastal Group UK policies and procedures, with particular attention to standards of customer service, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
