Simpler Recycling Compliance in Devon

Under the new Simpler Recycling legislation, businesses with 10 or more full-time equivalent employees must separate glass waste from other waste streams, including general waste and Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR).

While the legislation allows glass in DMR, most Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs), including Coastal Recycling’s, are not equipped to process glass. Placing glass in your DMR bin could result in it not being recycled at all. To ensure compliance and environmental responsibility, we provide a dedicated glass waste collection service.

Glass Waste FAQ’s

What type of glass can be recycled?

We accept glass bottles and jars. Other types of glass, such as Pyrex, window glass, and ceramics, should be disposed of separately as they require different recycling processes.

How often can my glass waste be collected?

We offer flexible collection schedules tailored to your business needs, ranging from weekly to less frequent collections.

Why can’t I put glass in my Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR) bin?

Most Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs) cannot process glass effectively. Mixing glass with DMR may lead to contamination, making it difficult to recycle other materials.

What happens to the glass after collection?

Collected glass is transported to specialist recycling facilities where it is processed and repurposed into new glass products, reducing waste and supporting a circular economy.

Does my business need to separate glass waste by colour?

No, our recycling partners handle the sorting process after collection, making it easier for businesses to comply with regulations.
